Registration Open for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Newfane
Niagara County Legislator Shawn Foti today announced that registration is now open for the county’s next household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event, which will be held on Saturday, August 17 in Newfane. The event is open to all Niagara County residents but you must register in advance.
Foti said the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Newfane Highway Department, located at 6176 McKee Street. Registration can be done by going to www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events and scrolling down to the Newfane event. There is also a list of items that will be accepted for recycling posted to that website.
“I am happy to bring our hazardous waste collection program back to Newfane and encourage residents to take full advantage of this opportunity to recycle leftover paints, pesticides, pool chemicals and other items in an environmentally responsible way,” said Foti.
Dawn Timm, Niagara County Environmental Coordinator, said in the ten-plus years the HHW program has been operating, more than one million pounds of harmful products have been removed from Niagara County homes.
“This is our third event this season and Niagara County residents continue to show up in record numbers to dispose of this waste,” said Timm. “Our community understands the importance of keeping these chemicals out of our landfills and we are so appreciative of everyone doing their part.”
The final two events of 2024 are September 28 in the Town of Niagara and October 5 in North Tonawanda. Registration for both will open a month prior to the event. Those with questions can email recycling@niagaracounty.com.
