Registration Now Open for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in N.T.
Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres today announced that registration is now open for the county’s final household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event of 2024, which will be held on Saturday, October 5 in North Tonawanda. The event is open to all Niagara County residents but you must register in advance.
Andres said the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works located at 758 Erie Avenue. Registration can be done by going to www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events and scrolling down to the N.T. event. There is also a list of items that will be accepted for recycling posted to that website.
“This is Niagara County’s last collection event of the year so as you begin to pack up for winter, this is a great time to rid yourself of leftover pool chemicals, pesticides or other items you want to clean out,” said Andres. “When you drop of these items at one of our HHW events, you can be assured they are disposed of properly and kept out of our landfills.”
Dawn Timm, Niagara County Environmental Coordinator, said in the eleven-plus years the HHW program has been operating, close to one million pounds of harmful products have been removed from Niagara County homes.
“We had another great year and I want to thank all of the Niagara County residents who continue to do their part to help protect our environment by participating in these events,” said Timm. “We are already planning our events for 2025 and will release that information early next year.”
Timm reminded residents that there is also a paint-only collection event this weekend at Veterans Park in the Town of Niagara. In addition, the county offers a free voucher program for those who wish to take their waste to the Hazman disposal facility in the City of Tonawanda. Details on both of these can also be found at www.rethinkyourwaste.com/events.
