Legislature Recognizes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Niagara County Legislature, Legislator Irene Myers read a proclamation recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Myers, a breast cancer survivor, urged residents to get their annual screening.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, more than 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.  But continued advancements in early detection methods and support increase the chances of survival. When caught in its earliest, localized stages, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99%.
