Niagara County Legislature is in Session this Evening, Special Ceremony to Take Place

The Niagara County Legislature is in session this evening at 6 p.m. at the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport.   The meeting is open to anyone who would likeWWII Plaque.5.20.25 to attend.

In addition, there will be a special ceremony tonight in which a bronze memorial plaque, dedicated in November, 1947 to the memory of nine young men from Lockport's Lowertown district, who all made the ultimate sacrifice during WWII, will be transferred to the Niagara County Courthouse.

For 78 years the plaque hung on the wall outside the main office of the former Dewitt Clinton Elementary School, where the young men attended grammar school.  The school closed in 2010 and it was feared the plaque had been lost or discarded.

Descendant of these nine men decided the Rotunda of the Niagara County Courthouse, which is home to the Purple Heart Book of Honor and the Congressional Medal of Honor awarded to WWI hero Frank Gaffney, was the right place for the permanent home of the plaque.

For those who would like to watch the meeting and ceremony from home, the meeting can be viewed on cable on Lockport Community Television (LCTV) Ch. 1303, over-the-air on WBNF-CD Channel 15.5, or can streamed on-line here: https://lctv.net/?page_id=1103
