“Domestic Violence Awareness Month” Exhibit on Display at Niagara County Courthouse
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This month-long national campaign, established by Congress in 1989, focuses on raising awareness about
domestic violence, supporting survivors, and educating communities to prevent abuse. The Niagara County Legislature is displaying the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier’s domestic violence exhibit in the rotunda of the Niagara County Courthouse now through October 14. The display features the stories of domestic violence victims – “Voices of a Survivor.”
The display also includes works form the “Found Healing” series. The canvas pieces were formed with found or broken everyday items and designed to reflect a survivor’s healing cycle.
In 2024, there were more than 3000 Domestic Incident Reports filed with police agencies in Niagara County. And these were only the reported incidents…as we know, many more go unreported.
If you or someone you know is the victim of domestic abuse, know that you are not alone. Please call the 24/7 hotline at 716-433-6716 to get help.
