Niagara County Department of Health Offers Winter Weather Emergency Preparedness Training to the Community

The Niagara County Department of Health (NCDOH) is pleased to announce that it is offering Winter Weather Emergency Preparedness Training to the public onMRC Training (January 2026).1.8.26 - Copy January 15, 2026. 

By inviting the community to join the training session, the NCDOH aims to enhance local resiliency and provide residents information on the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program.  This session will empower individuals and families with the knowledge and strategies used by MRC volunteers to stay safe during Western New York’s most extreme winter conditions. 

“Winter in Western New York can be unpredictable and poses significant health risks, from cold-related illnesses to the physical strain of snow removal,” said Dr. Fauzia Khan, Public Health Director. “By offering this training, our goal is to equip residents with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their loved ones throughout the season.” 

Mike Hill, Chairman of the Niagara County Legislature, emphasized the importance of community readiness. “Winter safety is a collective effort. By making this specialized training available to everyone, we are strengthening the resilience of our entire county. We want every Niagara County resident to have the tools to stay connected and safe when the snow starts falling.”

Workshop Topics Include:
  • Winter Storm Preparedness: Strategies for securing your home and preparing for potential power outages.
  • Road Safety: Essential tips for vehicle safety and navigating hazardous driving conditions.
  • Emergency Response: Identifying and preventing cold-related illnesses like frostbite and hypothermia.
  • MRC Overview: Learn more about the Medical Reserve Corps 
This course is appropriate for people of all backgrounds; no previous medical or emergency training is required. While in-person attendance is encouraged for the best experience, a virtual option will also be available.

  • When: Thursday, January 15, 2026 | 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
  • In-Person Location: NCDOH Conference Rooms 1A and 1B (55 Stevens St, Lockport, NY 14094). Please use Door #7 on the east side of the building.
  • Virtual Option: A digital link will be provided to registered participants closer to the event date.
  • Cost: FREE and open to the public.
