VVA Chapter 268’s “Our Photo Album” Now Available on Niagara County’s Veterans Services Website
Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski today announced that Vietnam Veterans of American (VVA) Chapter 268 in Niagara County have digitized their highly-regarded “Our Photo Album” exhibit and it is now available to be viewed on the Niagara County Veterans Services website.
Walt Moxham, a Vietnam Veteran and member of the Niagara County Chapter 268 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, said the “Our Photo Album” exhibit was created in 1990 to feature images shot by local soldiers taken during their tours of duty. The 500-plus pictures capture a very personal perspective of what it was like in Vietnam during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Moxham does a brief introduction to the digital exhibit.
“Our exhibit traveled throughout New York State and Southern Ontario and was even featured on the CBS Morning News,” said Moxham. “But with our members now in their 70s and 80s, we became concerned about how to preserve this important legacy. We decided to digitize the exhibit and distribute copies to our members to be passed along to family. Then, the County Clerk suggested we make it permanently available to the public through the Veterans Services website and we were very excited to do so.”
County Clerk Jastrzemski said, “We are honored to create a permanent digital home for ‘Our Photo Album’ that will ensure the real life experiences of our local soldiers in Vietnam are preserved so future generations can understand and appreciate their courage and sacrifice. “
